Prayer Principle 2A:3B "Anticipation with Expectation" Mr. C. Pat Lanyon

Review: ’Lord, I pray that...’ : ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ (Anticipation)

4B. FERTILIZATION by Discipleship -- You would guide me to one or more to disciple for Your kingdom.

MT 28.19-20; 2 TI 2.2

Today we now consider the Fourth subsection of praying for God’s Kingdom to come. This concept is commonly referred to as "the blessed hope!" The clearest verse to describe the concept comes from the Apostle John in the closing of the New Testament:

From the Prayer Notebook

RV 22.20 5B. EXPECTATION – I might await eagerly expecting with anticipation the coming of Your kingdom.

But we also see it in numerous other places and mentioned in various ways:

"His appearing," "the Blessed hope," "the things which God has prepared,"

4 Major Significant Scripture passages:

  1. Rev. 22:20
He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
  2. 2 Ti 4:8
Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to
all who have loved His appearing.
  3. Pp 3:20-21
For our citizenship* is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait‡ for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

    --------

    * 4175 politeuma politeuma
    pol-it'-yoo-mah
or similar to our English word, political, a state, commonwealth, 3a) the commonwealth of citizens; thus the translation, citizenship

    ‡ 553 apek-decomai apekdechomai
    ap-ek-dekh'-om-ahee
    1) assiduously and patiently waiting for

  4. 1 Jn 3:2-3
Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

Scriptural Reasons to Rejoice At Jesus’ Appearance:

1Co 2:9 But as it is written: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him."

1Co 13:12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

2Co 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,

Col 3:4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

Heb 9:28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

Ps 17:15 As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.

Ro 8:29 ¶ For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

1Co 15:49 And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.

Php 3:21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

2Pe 1:4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Job 19:26 And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God,

Ps 16:11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Mt 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.

Joh 17:24 ¶ "Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.

2Co 5:6-8 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

The Judgment Seat (The unsaved face an endless punishment; the saved face trial of vain works.)

Mal 3:2 "But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire And like launderer’s soap.

Applications:

It is God’s will that after people are born into His kingdom, and as they are being discipled that they all should be eagerly looking for His soon return. This means

  1. We should pray as John did, "Even so, come Lord Jesus!"
  2. We can rejoice and take great glory in what this event means to the believer.
  3. We should be motivated to live a separated and pure life. (1 John 3:3; Mal. 3:2)
