Prayer, Principle 5A. Forgiveness-Beatit: Purity of Heart’s Vision

The Meaning of Mercifulness:

It is to show a very forbearing spirit toward someone undeserving of the act which means not returning offenses, but even beyond this it is giving what is unexpected and favorable in order to represent the high concern God has for His creation. THUS, as we show this treatment to others, God in turn shows the same toward us personally.

From the Prayer Notebook:

Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

5A. CONFESSION – As I have kept short sin-debts by immediate confession of sins You have revealed, I now pause to examine my heart further for wrong attitudes. As You convict, I will once again make confession of my sin and remember it's results.

Matthew 5.3-10 "Blessed are..."

1B. THE BEATITUDES – Lord, help me...

3)the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

1C. To obtain spiritual goals You expect, that I might receive the fullest reward in heaven.

4)they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.

2C. To weep over sin You reveal to me, that I might have the peace of Your forgiveness.

5)the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

3C. To yield when I am shown sin, so that I may receive my earthly inheritance.

6)those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled,

4C. To desire being right in thoughts and actions, so that I will live right continuously.

7)the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

5C. To show mercy as I have received it from You, that I may have Your mercy's fullness.

8)the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

6C. To have an undefiled conscience, that I might have intimate fellowship with You.

pure= 2513 katharos katharos {kath-ar-os'} of uncertain affinity AV - pure (17) - clean (10) - clear (1) [28] DEFINED AS 1c) ethically, free from corrupt desire, from sin and guilt; free from every admixture of what is false, sincere; genuine; blameless, innocent; unstained with the guilt of anything

Albert Barnes Commentary:

Verse 8. Blessed are the pure in heart. That is, whose minds, motives, and principles are pure. Who seek not only to have the external actions correct, but who desire to be holy in heart, and who are so. Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looketh on the heart.

They shall see God. There is a sense in which all shall see God, #Re 1:7. That is, they shall behold him as a Judge, not as a Friend. In this place it is spoken of as a peculiar favour. So also in #Re 22:4. And they shall see his face. To see the face of one, or to be in his presence, were, among the Jews, terms expressive of great favour. It was regarded as a high honour to be in the presence of kings and princes, and to be permitted to see them, #Pr 22:29. He shall stand before kings, etc. See also 2Ki 25:19. "Those that stood in the king's presence ;" in the Hebrew, those that saw the face of the king; that is, who were his favourites and friends. So here, to see God, means to be his friends and favourites, and to dwell with him in his kingdom.

"pure in heart" #Ps 24:3,4 He 12:4 1Jn 3:2,3

Write below how you can show this beatitude to someone today. Then look to see how God returned the similar treatment back toward you personally:
